Bringing the art of Spanish ham to The Epicurean
For the past year, our staff in The Epicurean restaurant have been working closely with renowned Spanish Ham Master, Jose Sol, to learn the fine art of carving and serving the popular Pata Negra ham on board.
Before starting to carve, it is important to become familiar with all of the different parts of a ham, and the correct way to carve (small, very fine, almost transparent slices, always leaving a little fat along the edge). Jose works closely with one of the leading Iberian producers of Pata Negra ham in Spain and is a celebrated expert whose knowledge and experience of working with Spanish ham is second to none – making him the perfect teacher.
We aim to serve our guests the best food in all of our restaurants. In The Epicurean on board Britannia, Azura and Ventura you’ll find the finest grade Pata Negra ham – Cinco Jotas (5J) 100% Iberico acorn-fed ham, which is sourced from free-range pigs that roam oak forests along the border between Spain and Portugal and is cured for 36 months. Be sure to try some next time you’re on board!

New ingredients and contemporary flavours in our main restaurants
We know that good food makes for a good holiday. As well as serving the finest Pata Negra ham in The Epicurean, we’ve also refreshed the menus in our main restaurants. Whether you’re travelling on a long cruise, or simply want to try something new every day, we have more variety as well as some contemporary twists to our recognised dishes. From exciting new vegetarian menus influenced from around the globe to menus incorporating more sustainable and home-grown ingredients, such as Atlantic pollock and Highland venison liver, the choice is yours. If you prefer sticking with what you know, though, don’t worry – our established favourites such as prawn cocktail, sirloin steak and bread & butter pudding are all still available.
