About Limon

Limon is your gateway to some of the most extraordinary experiences imaginable. Like the Rainforest Aerial Tram ride through the canopy of a 1,000-acre nature reserve next to a national park. On a jungle boat trip you can travel silently through the network of jungle canals and enjoy the chance to see what a rainforest life is like at ground level.

In another part of the forest, you can even travel through the canopy Tarzan-style (except in slow-motion) on a series of horizontal traverse cables. Multi-coloured butterflies and birds fly by while you absorb the atmosphere of this living, breathing forest. You may see some monkeys but that is more likely on the Tortuguero Canals, another national park - one created to protect the green turtle (Tortuguero).

Nearly a quarter of Costa Rica is national parks as the country boasts 8,000 species of plants, 859 species of birds and 10% of the worlds butterflies.

Duration: 4 hours

A unique opportunity to meet the weird and wonderful wildlife at the Animal Rescue Centre at Cahuita National Park.

The Animal Rescue Centre protects and rehabilitates displaced wildlife and provides a safe haven to animals that need refuge due to the loss of their habitat, accidents or are victims of pet trade or hunting.

Many of the animals are nursed back to health and released into their natural habitat once again. The Centre provides the most natural habitat possible for the resident animals, including sloths, iguanas, monkeys and deer.

The gardens are spread across approximately 10 acres of rainforest. There are an abundance of palms, heleconias and bromeliads and located in the Talamanca area, you’ll find many indigenous plants. Enjoy an informative self-guided walk along a trail and look out for a variety of spices such as vanilla, black pepper and cinnamon. In addition you’ll see we have papayas, bananas, cacaos and pineapples.

After this interesting tour of the rescue centre and its trails, you’ll enjoy complimentary soft drinks and tropical fruits before returning to your ship.

This delightful tour takes you on a scenic and historical journey through Costa Rica. An experience not to be missed.

Travel along the famous narrow-gauge tracks on the railroad, which supposedly ‘couldn't be built’. The Northern Railroad gave birth to the banana industry and turned the fragile, delicious fruit into a leading export. You’ll ride the railroad in newly restored authentic carriages to enjoy the views over forests and rivers, whilst your guide points out the interesting sights.

The train takes you along the Caribbean shoreline, bordered by hundreds of tall coconut trees. You’ll pass banana plantations and have wonderful views of the small colourful houses, set on stilts and decorated with local flowers.

Afterwards, your tour continues to the Tortuguero Canals. You’ll arrive at Moin Station and be welcomed with a refreshing drink and a light snack before boarding your boat for a delightful eco-cruise. Enjoy the rich flora and fauna that exists in the man-made canals, and keep an eye out for a variety of animals, including birds, monkeys, crocodiles, sloths and toucans.
